As of June 2026, the PRIDE Project has reached its one year anniversary!

There are currently over 400 patients consented and enrolled in the study, and the research team is working on recording and analysing data from thousands of patient visits.

This June also marks 55 years of the modern Pride Movement in Toronto which began as a community picnic and a political march at Hanlan’s Point on the Toronto Islands. Rather than a celebratory festival, Pride’s original intention was a protest against systemic discrimination against Queer and Trans individuals.

At the PRIDE Project’s inception, the literature on gender affirming care included many limitations, drawing on clinical populations from specific geographies, health care systems, and sociopolitical contexts. These limitations have been leveraged in recent efforts to limit or restrict the provision of gender-affirming care, including in Canada.

Thus, the PRIDE Project continues to strive towards creating robust, contextually relevant, long-term research on the experiences and outcomes of adolescents engaging in gender-affirming care in Canada.
